Wrapping the windowsill yourself with interior foil

Wrapping a windowsill is a job that you can easily do yourself. Keep in mind that it will probably take you longer than a specialist. After all, you want the end result to be something to be proud of. However, by working accurately, you can easily provide your windowsill with a beautiful layer of interior foil yourself. To help you on your way, we have listed a number of steps for wrapping a windowsill.

Step 1: Clean and dry the windowsill before you start

The first step is to thoroughly clean your windowsill. Every bit of dirt can cause the film to not adhere properly or to come loose too quickly. That is of course a great shame, especially because it can be prevented by cleaning it properly. It is best to use a clean cloth and a degreaser. This allows you to easily and quickly remove dust, grease and oil from the windowsill. After cleaning the windowsill, make sure that you dry the windowsill properly and you can continue with step 2.

Step 2: Measure windowsill and cut foil to size

You probably already know the dimensions of the windowsill, because you have already ordered interior film. However, it never hurts to measure again. Is it your first time to stick interior film on a windowsill? Then it is best to provide some extra film. That way you know for sure that you have enough film to touch up certain spots.

Step 3: Apply the foil

With the piece of interior foil that is made to measure for the windowsill, you can now start sticking. Make sure you apply the beginning well and straight and then remove the backing of the foil and apply it in a tight way to the windowsill.

Step 4: Remove air bubbles and creases

Even if you apply the foil as tightly as possible, there may be some air bubbles underneath. Don't panic, because with a squeegee you can easily smooth out the foil and remove the bubbles. Always work from the middle to the edge. The PVC foil is easy to pull loose a little and then squeegee it again, if necessary. With the PVC-free foil you will have to do this with a little more care, because it sticks harder.

Step 5: Finishing edges

The windowsill now has a nice layer of interior foil. High time to start finishing the edges. You can easily cut off the excess foil and then trim the edges for a neat finish.
